Energy community in Beroun: the city will build a photovoltaic power plant with batteries and share
electricity between buildings
We have prepared a technical and economic study on establishing an
energy community for the district city of Beroun. In the study, we proposed the construction of new sources – photovoltaic
power plants (PVPP) and battery storage systems (BESS) – and assessed their economic return.
The optimal size was determined based on economic efficiency in direct consumption
at consumption points and energy sharing with other municipal buildings that cannot have their own sources
.
The outcome of the study is a proposal for a community that should have:
9 photovoltaic power plants with a total capacity of 1296.8 kWp
Battery storage with a capacity of 643.4 kWh
Total annual production of 1,265.3 MWh
Direct consumption in buildings of 405.5 MWh (32%)
Sharing with other buildings of 128.5 MWh (10%)
Based on the study, the city supported the plan, and in August 2025, the energy community was
officially established.
