The Energy and Water Innovation Cluster (EWIC) has expanded its professional activities by establishing a new working group, WG 04 – Cybersecurity in Community Energy, which was approved at its inaugural meeting on 22 June 2026.
The mission of the working group is to develop a security framework for digitally managed community energy systems, particularly in the areas of smart grids, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and energy management systems. Its activities will focus on cyber risk management, compliance with the requirements of the NIS2 Directive, the design of security architecture, continuous security monitoring, and the development of technical solutions for the cybersecurity and fire safety of energy infrastructure.
The working group brings together representatives of the EWIC cluster, ESET, RESACS, Turena s.r.o., and the Regional Chamber of Commerce of the Pardubice Region. Ing. František Štefan has been appointed as the head of the working group. Its main deliverable for 2026 will be a security study on community energy systems, laying the foundations for the safe and long-term sustainable operation of this infrastructure.
