Pec pod Sněžkou Town Council has approved a memorandum on establishing an energy community. This is a first step towards developing a system that could make more effective use of locally generated electricity and enable it to be shared.

The initiative was preceded by a connection between the town and Turena s.r.o., a prominent member of the Energy and Water Innovation Cluster (EWIC). EWIC is also a founding member of the Krkonoše Energy Community. Experience gained in developing community energy projects could therefore help identify a suitable approach for Pec pod Sněžkou.

If designed well, an energy community could benefit the town, local organisations and households. The specific opportunities for sharing electricity and the expected benefits will become clearer as the project develops.

Approval of the memorandum signals support for the initiative. The energy community has not yet been established; technical, economic and organisational work must follow.
